The Hobbit
Book: The Hobbit
Author: J.R.R. Tolkien
Publication: 1937
Genre: Fantasy
Bio:The Hobbitfollows the quest of home-loving hobbit Bilbo Baggins to win a share of the treasure guarded by the dragon, Smaug. Bilbo's journey takes him from light-hearted, rural surroundings into more sinister territory.[2] The story is told in the form of an episodic quest, and most chapters introduce a specific creature, or type of creature, of Tolkien's Wilderland. By accepting the disreputable, romantic, fey and adventurous side of his nature and applying his wits and common sense, Bilbo gains a new level of maturity, competence and wisdom.[3] The story reaches its climax in the Battle of Five Armies, where many of the characters and creatures from earlier chapters re-emerge to engage in conflict.*
Review: This book is great. Tolkien has an incredible ability to make a world that is so detailed. He also has a fantastic ability making so many characters and different species of creatures. Tolkien is always able to make sure that his creatures stick to their features and don't slip into the characteristics of another species. The plot line is great and enthralling, I found myself cheering on Bilbo the whole way.
Rating: Several Copies in the Stack, the first time I read this book I was in the fifth grade, and even now as a senior in high school the book is able to hold my attention.
